The Sport and Physical Activity community are calling on all Federal Parties to adopt these key messages in their platforms:
INVEST IN SPORT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY – The best medicine when it comes to improving the health of Canadians and cutting healthcare costs.
- Introduce a Canadian Sport and Physical Activity Strategy
- Increase investment in prevention
- Commit to a Minister for Sport and Physical Activity
- Introduce innovative tax measures
STRENGTHEN COMMUNITIES – Build social capital and inclusion through a more inclusive and accessible sport, physical activity, and recreation system.
- Adopt explicit policies, programs and funding criteria to make community sport and physical activity more accessible
- Invest in informal sport and physical activity
- Include sport, physical activity and recreation programs in strategies to support children and youth at risk
- Support community sport volunteers
SUPPORT AND CELEBRATE CANADA’S CHAMPIONS – Investment in high performance sport is an investment in national pride and unity, and one of the best means of inspiring more Canadians to participate in sport and physical activity.
- Raise investment in high performance sport to a comparative level of other G8 countries
- Strengthen high-performance coaching
- Improve athlete support and equity for athletes with disabilities
BUILD SPORT, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND RECREATION INTO EVERY COMMUNITY – It’s time for a national sport and recreation infrastructure strategy and a renewed infrastructure fund.
- Renew RINC
- Create a Canada Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Strategy
- Promote the renewal and implementation of a comprehensive National Sport Hosting Strategy
